HAGBOURNE SCHOOL MENUS
Dear parents/Guardians All the food on the menu will be home-made where possible, the emphasis being on a good mix of healthy, tasty, nutritionally sound meals using fresh ingredients and local suppliers where possible. All the food will be freshly prepared daily. Meat: comes from a local butcher and is outstanding quality. I do not use “catering” quality cuts, thereby ensuring I am using high quality, lean meat. The burgers I use are made using 96% beef and have only 4% rusk added to them – no preservatives, colouring or artificial flavouring added to them. Similarly, the sausages, when they appear on the menu, are fresh butchers sausages made to order and are 96% pure pork with the remaining 4% being the outer casing and some rusk to keep them together. Vegetables: come from a local supplier and are picked up daily as and when needed. This ensures all fruit and vegetables are at their freshest, ensuring vitamin content is at its highest. Fish: when on the menu is always delivered fresh, not frozen. I use salmon and various white fish such as haddock according to the menu, on a regular basis. There are no fried foods on the menu. Most foods are oven baked and I do use some olive oil in my cooking. Salad/Fruit: There is a salad bar daily for the children to help themselves to. Fresh Fruit is always on offer as a choice of dessert. I use a variety of seasonal fruit to try and make it as attractive as possible. Cheese and biscuits are always on offer too, as are yoghurts. There will always be some sort of dessert choice that will be home-made and is fruit themed. Lastly, I would like to see your child trying dinners – no child will ever be forced to eat anything – but they will be encouraged to try it. They may even get to like it! If you are worried in any way about the food on offer, please do not hesitate to come and see me in the kitchen. Yours sincerely Edda Coles Catering Manager
